Services

General Services and Special Clinics

The surgery offers a comprehensive range of healthcare and general practice care, in addition to the following services and special clinics.

Respiratory Clinic

The respiratory clinics are held for patients who suffer with asthma and/or chronic obstructive airways disease (COPD). These are held by the Practice Nurses who are all trained specialists in Asthma and COPD and see both adults and children.

Coronary Heart Disease Clinics

These clinics are Practice Nurse led clinics, with GP support, for patients who have heart disease, have had a stroke or circulatory disease. Appointments for review are sent by post, via the telephone or text message.

Diabetic Clinic

The diabetic clinic is run by a Practice Nurse with GP support. Appointments for review are sent out by post, via the telephone or text message.

Dietician

Appointments are given to patients who have been referred by the doctor. However, general weight advice and healthy eating advice can be sought from the Practice Nurse or Health Trainer by appointments.

Joint injections/Cryotherapy

Minor procedures are carried out by the Doctors. These include joint injections and liquid nitrogen treatment for warts and verrucae. Please note you will need to be assessed by a GP before an appointment is given.

Ante-Natal and Post-Natal Clinics

The Midwife carries out the Ante-Natal Clinic and her clinics are by appointment only. If you have any problems relating to your pregnancy then please contact the Community Midwives Office on 01709 427700. Post-Natal’s and your baby’s 6 week check are carried out between 6-8 weeks.

Family Planning

A full family planning service is available with either a Doctor or Practice Nurse. This includes contraceptive injections, oral contraceptives and emergency “morning after” contraception.

Cervical Smears

It is important that all women between 25 and 64 have a cervical smear test. Women aged 25-49 will be offered screening every 3 years and women aged 50-64 will be offered screening every 5 years. If you have not had a smear in the last 3 or 5 years please make an appointment. The Practice Nurse provides this service and can also offer advice on Sexual Health.

Menopausal/PMT Clinic

General advice and help can be sought from the Practice Nurse.

Blood Tests

Monday – Friday from 8.30am by our Phlebotomist and Healthcare Assistant.  Appointments are necessary.

Baby Immunisation/Vaccination Clinic

This is for routine Childhood Immunisations and is held every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3.15pm by the Practice Nurse.

The Health Visitor and Nursery Nurse will be available at Swinton Brookfield Centre on a Tuesday between 1.30pm – 3.30pm for weighing of your baby and general advice and support.

Both clinics are for WELL babies only. If you are concerned that your baby is unwell please phone the surgery for a routine GP appointment.

Vaccinations

Flu vaccinations are available from the end of September every year and are for all patients over 65 and any at risk patient with a chronic disease, i.e. Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Heart Disease.

Pneumonia vaccinations are available all year round and are for all patients over 65 and any patient with a chronic disease, i.e. Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Heart Disease.

A travel advice and travel vaccination service is available with the Practice Nurse. For foreign travel allow plenty of time (8 weeks if possible) to fit in the scheduled vaccinations you may require.

Substance Misuse Clinic

This clinic is held on a Wednesday afternoon by Dr Venables and a Primary Care Liaison Nurse. This service is available to any patient with drug related problems who wishes to seek help and advice. Appointments are made by the Liaison Nurse who will phone the patient direct to discuss the problem and make appropriate arrangements.

Insurance Medicals and Non-NHS Services

Certain examinations are not covered by the NHS. These include medicals for HGV licences, PSV licences, fitness for occupation, travel and sporting activities etc, holiday cancellation forms and some medical certificates and forms to be completed. All these services can be arranged via the reception staff who will inform you of the fee involved.

Sick Certification

An employee can self-certify for short term illness (up to six working days). After this a Doctor’s Medical Certificate is required, which can only be issued after a review with your GP. Any request from an employee or employer for a doctor’s certificate earlier than six days will be by private certificate, for which there will be a charge.

Carers Register

We are looking at ways of supporting people who are carers by establishing a confidential carers register. If you look after someone (perhaps a parent, partner, relative, older person etc) and would like to register as a carer, please speak to the receptionist for further information.
